Left 4 Dead - Multiplayer

Having trouble trying to get your friends to help you out in defeating the endless horde of zombies?
No problem, simply follow the instructions below:
(this method tested and working for the SKIDROW/Skullptura release)

----Hoster Instructions----

1. Create hamachi room/channel and ensure all who wish to play are connected.

2. Everyone in hamachi will need to have the same subnet mask in order to successfully connect. This means that if, for example, the hoster's address is 5.39.97.22 then everyone who wishes to connect must have a hamachi ip starting with 5.39.97.### where ### can be any number (just put it close to the host to ensure sucessful connection)

3. To achieve this, you can manually reset all your ips at the same time by editing the registry (hk method) OR you can try using the alias VPN feature inside hamachi. More instruction on this later when i test if it actually works.

4. Start up L4D, bring up the console by pressing the '~' key. It may need to be enabled first, to do this go: Options --> Keyboard --> Enable Developer Console

5. In the console enter in:
ip [Hamachi ip]
where [Hamachi ip] is obviously the hoster's hamachi ip :O

6. Now enter in:
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
7. After that enter in:
net_start
8. Now select which map you want to play by typing:
map l4d_[******]
where [******] is the map of your choice. A drop down menu should show you some available options, basically the names go like this:
  • Act 1, No Mercy - map l4d_hospital...
  • Act 2, Death Toll - map l4d_smalltown...
  • Act 3, Dead Air - map l4d_airport...
  • Act 4, Blood Harvest - map l4d_farm...
9. Once this is done, the hoster should have created the game and everyone can now join!

----Client Instructions----

1. If you want to play, you obviously need to be connected to the same hamchi network as hoster

3. Bring up console in L4D, type in:
connect [hamachi ip of the host]
4. I hope it works for you!

---- UPDATE ----
If there are any problems trying to LAN with someone using an original steam-linked version, or any other problems, you can update the skullptura/skidrow release by following the patching instructions to this torrent.
Particularly useful to make it easier to vote to change difficulty in game, as well as plenty of bug fixes and minor game improvements.

I created a Left4Dead Launcher (Ogerlauncher). It's a useful tool if you want to create or join a game.
